Plein écran Fermer

The biggest multifunctional arena in Brno built with bolted connections.

A new multifunctional hall being constructed near the Brno Exhibition Centre (BVV) will provide the city with the largest and most advanced venue for sports, cultural, and congress events. The hall will offer a capacity of up to 13,000 seats, and the project also includes the development of approximately 1,300 parking spaces.

This construction ranks among Brno’s major strategic projects. The building phase of the hall began in September 2023. The structure is rising within the BVV complex, behind Pavilion Z and between Pavilions F and G1.

What new opportunities does it bring to the city?

  • Multifunctional use for sports, culture, congresses, and events
  • Flexible layout suitable for various sports: handball, ice hockey, tennis, volleyball, basketball, boxing
  • Increased spectator capacity for sports matches
  • Ability to host concerts for large audiences
  • Capacity to organize major international sports events such as World and European Championships
  • Extensive representative facilities linked to the Brno Exhibition Centre
  • Suitable venue for large social and congress events
  • Modern architecture and excellent acoustic performance

Description of the multifunctional hall

The external dimensions at ground level are 151 m × 108 m, with a height of approximately 29.5 m above ground. The built-up area covers 16,470 m² and the total enclosed volume reaches 475,000 m³.

The hall respects the scale, shape, and placement characteristic of the exhibition grounds, reflecting its urban design and importance for the city of Brno. Dominant features include semi-structural glass façades and horizontal slats made of brushed, lacquered stainless steel, harmonizing with the surrounding pavilions.

The semi-structural glass façade with high thermal insulation allows all floors to house spaces such as shops, offices, exhibition areas, or restaurants with natural daylight, making the building fully usable even outside event times. This solution supports the idea of creating a new, lively urban space. A key feature of the horizontal slats is their dynamic lighting, with color and brightness signaling the hall’s current use.

The color concept is simple: the natural metallic surface complemented by any hue created through lighting—either diffused via reflection or delivered directly through linear light strips integrated into the slats. Two large projection surfaces on the façade serve as notable design elements, enabling live broadcasting from inside the hall or displaying informational and advertising content.

The hall is designed for quick conversion between sports and cultural setups without structural modifications. All layout, technical, and technological solutions focus on efficiency and speed when switching event types. The concept follows the classical architectural model of an “arena.”

The building consists of one underground and six above-ground floors. The underground level accommodates the main event floor, parking, backstage facilities for athletes and performers, and storage areas for technical equipment used both for building operations and for individual events. The first above-ground floor forms a continuous visitor entrance, directing spectators into the main seating bowl (22 rows), the club seat zone on the third floor, the skybox level on the fourth floor, and an additional upper zone with six rows accessible from the fifth floor.

Brno’s largest multifunctional hall

Until now, Brno lacked a venue capable of hosting sports and cultural events with more than 10,000 spectators. The new arena will provide a modern and comfortable environment for up to 13,000 attendees at concerts and events allowing standing on the main floor. For ice hockey games, the hall will accommodate 12,714 spectators. The complex will also offer refreshments, shops, and additional visitor services.
