Building project with big ambitions and a challenging location.

Paper island, a project on the historic island Christiansholm, consists of a group of buildings of different heights and courses, but with a uniform architectural expression with sloping facades, which is inspired by the historic buildings on the island and the roofs of the old warehouses. The buildings are spread over 45,000 m² and over 12 floors plus basement. They are surrounded by an inner green urban space and around the periphery of the island, there will be a wide promenade and wooden pier facing the water.

The architectural firm COBE is behind the overall plan for the area. The idea is to create an inviting and informal meeting place for social gatherings and culture, and therefore a new food market is also included in the plan.

Together with the client, NCC has designed the details of the project together with consulting engineer MOE and decided on an efficient design of the raw house that ensures that the building can be built in a faster, safer and more efficient manner. In addition, landscape architect Inside Outside is also part of the project.

The columns were mounted using HPKM® Column Shoes and the unique tile facades are connected using SUMO® Wall Shoes.

Kasper Vase Petersen, Production Manager, NCC Danmark A / S "The main reason for choosing columns shoes and wall shoes, from my point of view, is the easy and simple installation that leads to less grouting failures compared to corrugated tubes. This also means simpler documentation for the connections and grouting quality afterwards," says Vase Petersen. "We also appreciated that we don’t need any bracings during erection phase. When we have less manual lifts and less bracing to handle, we also improve the working environment for our erection crew, which is important for us."

Construction began in 2020 and is expected to be completed in 2024.
