The City of Helsinki is constructing a six-story service center in Jakomäki that will include 104 apartments. The center will also house facilities that support assisted living and day activities, staff workspaces, a small parking garage, and one commercial unit. The fenced courtyard area is designed to include fitness equipment, table groups, green zones, and a small pavilion.
Construction on the site began in June 2024 and is expected to be completed by January 2026. The building will have a durable structure made of steel and concrete, with a façade of light-colored brick. The main contractor for the project is Skanska. Architectural design is handled by Studio Puisto Architects Ltd, and structural design by IdeaStructura Ltd.
Peikko delivered a significant quantity of DELTABEAM® Green Composite Beams, PETRA® Green Slab Hangers, HPM® Anchor Bolts, and ARBOX® Joint Reinforcement for the project.
According to Peikko’s project manager, Pia Rantanen, the project progressed smoothly from start to finish. “The planning deserves special recognition – the project stayed on schedule and there were no surprises, which is not always a given in construction,” Rantanen noted.
From the contractor’s perspective, the implementation phase has also gone as planned. “We are satisfied with Peikko’s deliveries. The beams arrived on time as agreed and there were no issues,” commented Esko Leino, Skanska’s Site Manager.
Senior Site Manager Mikko Virtanen from Skanska also highlighted the ease of installation: “The DELTABEAM®s fit into place without any problems. The necessary penetrations for building services had been well considered in the beams.”
