In addition to a daycare center and a comprehensive school for approximately 840 pupils, the facility will feature a multipurpose hall. Under the same roof, there will also be youth facilities, a library, and spaces for the Oulu adult education center and various community services.
DELTABEAM® Green Enhances Flexibility and Facilitates Easy HVAC Installations
The 16,400 m² building is designed to serve a diverse group of users well into the future. Its structural frame is composed of concrete columns, hollow-core slabs, and DELTABEAM® Green composite beams delivered by Peikko. These beams enable slim floor constructions and provide excellent adaptability of interior spaces throughout the building’s lifecycle.
The five-winged design of the building is architecturally striking and allows for generous natural light to flood the interior. DELTABEAM® Green beams placed in the central area of the building enable a slim floor structure, which also eases the installation of building services.
In addition to the beams, Peikko’s delivery included PETRA® Green slab hangers, HPM® anchor bolts, WELDA® anchor plates, and PCs® hidden corbels.
Seamless Cooperation and On-Time Progress
Construction of the multipurpose facility began in summer 2024, with completion estimated for the end of 2026. The main contractor is Oulun Rakennusteho Oy, and the design is provided by Sweco Finland Oy.
The building’s five-pointed star layout and timber-clad façade make it a visual landmark while also presenting certain implementation challenges. However, the project has progressed on schedule, and any issues that have arisen have been addressed promptly through effective collaboration.
Peikko’s Project Manager, Pia Rantanen, praises the excellent working atmosphere and smooth cooperation between all parties. She also highlights the value of Peikko’s technical customer service during the project.
