A new, state-of-the-art and sustainable research facility is being built in Lund.

A new modern and environmentally sustainable research facility in Lund is now under construction. The project, which will be a unique materials research facility based on our most powerful neutron source is being devleoped by ESS.

Here, researchers from all over the world will gather and carry out research and tests on different types of materials that can lead to progress and be of great importance in the future.

Skanska has built the infrastructure for the research facility. They also built an approximately 500-meter-long accelerator tunnel, research buildings, service buildings and three instrument halls.

Peikko has supplied a diverse array of connection products, utilized in both foundational and structural components of various buildings. Drawing from our proprietary cast-in-situ product line, Peikko has provided numerous construction solutions, seamlessly integrated into both foundation and building structures alike.

The project began in 2014 and is being built in phases with the operation starting in 2023, with additions continuing into 2027. The entire facility is expected to be in full operation by 2028.
