The new hospital in Västerås is one of Sweden’s largest hospital projects and will play a vital role in the future of healthcare in the Västmanland region. Peikko has contributed significantly to the project by delivering innovative and time-efficient frame solutions for large parts of the building.
Extensive Deliveries for Strängbetong’s Scope
Peikko supplied DELTABEAM® for all areas of the hospital where Strängbetong was responsible for the frame, as well as DELTABEAM® Frame—including both columns and beams—for the building's façade section.
In addition, THRELDA® fastening plates and the BESISTA® Rod System were used in a unique structural solution to relieve a particular section of the frame subjected to exceptionally high loads. The solution was developed by Peikko’s technical team and enabled a safe and efficient structure where standard methods were not sufficient.
Early-Stage Technical Expertise – A Key to the Project
One of the reasons Peikko was entrusted with this project was our comprehensive technical analysis early in the planning phase. The client had strict requirements for vibration control in the structure, which is crucial in a healthcare environment. By delivering detailed and in-depth calculations to minimize vibrations, Peikko demonstrated both technical expertise and a clear understanding of the project’s demands—an important factor in being selected as the frame supplier.
Time-Saving Bolted Connections
The project extensively utilized bolted connections, resulting in substantial time and cost savings by minimizing the need for on-site welding. The assembly was faster and required fewer personnel, an important advantage for our project partners.
Custom Solutions for a Complex Hospital Design
In several parts of the building, Peikko also designed project-specific beams to allow for larger pipe installations, which has been particularly important in a complex project like a modern emergency hospital.
3.7 Kilometres of Beams – A Long-Term Collaboration
In total, Peikko delivered approximately 5 kilometres of beams to the project—an extensive commitment that spanned several years and involved close collaboration with all project stakeholders.
